Hungover and Exploring Rome (Part 2)

If you haven’t already you can catch up on part one here.

I awoke the next day with my hangover gone and rearing to go! It was my last official day in Rome before the dreaded 35+ hour venture back home to New Zealand so I wanted to make the most of it!

I was completely free to do as I pleased as all my paid tours were done with so myself and my friend Ally were ready to get stuck in! We took the next train out to the center and then a bus back to Vatican city to do a little more exploring around the area and grab tickets to explore the beauty of the Sistine Chapel. We spent a good couple of hours here just exploring and capturing photos (those of which I can no longer locate sadly) and caught some of the best views of the whole of Rome! Does anyone know that scene out of Eat, Pray, Love where Julia Roberts is up on a rooftop longingly looking out over Rome… well that was basically me on that exact same rooftop! (but maybe a little less put together and a lot more hair blowing right in my face).

Next, it was time to make our way back to the heart of the city for what was about to be the most eventful lunch we had ever had. With our tummies rumbling we took our selves to the very first Italian restaurant in our sights (which didn’t take all too long to find) and sat ourselves down.

Not much longer after we sat down we were approached by the friendliest fellow Italian waiter ready to grab our orders… Pizza and pasta, please!

As we were sat chatting away we couldn’t help but notice the chef from the kitchen peeping over towards us, as we caught eyes with him he swiftly looked away and hid behind the garden of herbs displayed along the kitchen windowsill. We continued on with our chat, mostly reminiscing about our trip until Ally stopped mid-sentence and goes,

“Uh, Tayla I think the chef is sending us air kisses!”

And that was exactly what he was doing, along with mouthing the words “I love you” and making a heart out of his hands then hiding back behind the herbs again with a cheeky grin and flushed cheeks… Guess he took a liking to us!

Then to my surprise out comes my pizza… in the SHAPE OF A HEART! (complimentary of the chef of course).

Now I’ll be honest that was no doubt the BEST pizza I have ever had in my life! I guess it does make a difference when it is made… with love! Along with that we received multiple free drinks of Limoncello ( an Italian lemon liqueur mainly produced in Southern Italy) complimentary of the chef once again and we were blessed with some of the best Italian service we had ever had.

Buzzing from the alcohol, with full tummies and a big grin on our faces it was time to do a little shopping to kill some time before our tattoo appointment which we had planned out that morning.  You can read about our tattoo experience over on my getting tattoos abroad blog post to hear about how that went!

After the tattoo sesh as the sun was setting we made our way back to our hostel for some final drinks at the hostel bar across the road to conclude our Rome experience. My time spent there was short but we had squished in as much as we could and I had the most wonderful time and made memories I will never forget!

Rome is a place the will take your breath away the instance you step on it’s grounds. There is so much history and beauty to be discovered, you will transported back in time.

If you ever get the chance I definitely recommend you make the time to visit Rome and experience it for yourself because it is an experience like no other! And if you have ever been to Rome yourself what is some of you best memories you have from visiting? Let me know in the comments below, let reminisce on our trips together!
